To anyone who sees this, Ficedula refers to a music program that replaces the midi files in the PC version. If you clicked on this thinking it was a new variation of the FF7 series, you'll be disappointed.
Anyhoo, I got the PC version of FF7 the other day. People said to just play the game with a PSX emulator on the PC, but I wanted to give the PC version a try. It was suppose to have a better translation, and with Hardware Mode, the graphics would look a ton better than the PSX version (unless you're using Pixel filtering on the PS2, then it would probably look the same).
After many problems and headaches, I was able to get it solved, and I was able to play the game on my Vista Laptop (which was a tuffy to do, since FF7 PC was built for Windows 95). I was happy that I could start playing it again...
Just one thing though...
The game played smoothly, the graphics were excelling (even in 600x420/whatever it is...)... but the music... Oh dear lordy, the music is horrible.
In the PSX version, they used better sound format to play their musics... For the PC version, they dumbed it down to a midi format... and it barely sounds anything like it (some may, but most don't)...
Checking out a video the other day of the Final boss of FF7 (since I've seen it before), I noticed the guy using the PC version... and the midi-form of One Winged Angel was horrible... Took an epic battle and made it go from "Memorable" to "Forgettable".
After checking out some things, I learned that there was a program called "Ficedula". What it does is, you can take a Mp3 or the music from the Playstation game, and insert it into the PC game.
Sounds nice, right? Well, it has its flaws... For one thing, the Ficedula says it's suppose to mute the original Midi, so that only your Mp3 is heard... but it doesn't. Some say to mute the music from the game's configuration... but turning it all the way down also mutes the sound effects... so no sword slashing, magic casting sounds, or Bahamut cries will be heard... and just the music alone makes the game sort of boring without sound effects.

So, I'm going to try and experiment here pretty soon. I'm going to see if I can remove the sound from the actual game, so that the game doesn't find it, so Ficedula won't over-lap it. If I can do that, I won't have to mute the sound effects, and I'll be able to play the game with the better Mp3's... because I ~WONT~ battle against the epic Final Boss with such a horrible midi... the final boss battle is suppose to be the best battle; epic, memorable, and just fun... the midi-format reduces that experience...
So, wish me luck. Hopefully, I won't screw it up or anything.
