Instead of pushing myself to draw that character I mentioned in my previous journal, I decided to go back to doing what I do best; drawing characters that are obscure and pretty much forgotten!
And this guy's no exception. Meet King Penguin, a boss from the NES title "Little Nemo: The Dream Master". Developed by Capcom in 1990, many would argue the game (in terms of entertainment) is far more enjoyable (and memorable) than the movie itself.
King Penguin has a predictable pattern; when he lands on either side of the screen, he'll shoot bubbles up into the air, to which Nemo will have to dodge. While the player is busy with that, he'll also send out one-to-three little penguins to get in your way, though one swipe with your morning star (a magical rod... "Morning star" is probably a mistranslation) will get rid of them. Once he does these two things, he'll fly up in the air and repeat this tactic until you hit him enough times to finish him.
(If memory serves me correctly, this guy is not in the movie... but I can't confirm this.)
As for the pic itself, I think it came out alright. It wasn't a difficult one to draw, though I don't think it stands out among my better pics. While drawing him though, I decided to change a few things about him while using photographs of real-life penguins, namely the beak (gave it some more shape) and his feet (changed them to black instead of yellow). I also gave him a tail, because why not. I also gave him a background similar to what I did with my Whiskey Weasel pic, so you could see the original sprite behind him.
(Of course, I think the Whiskey Weasel pic came out a bit better... - freezingicekirby.deviantart.co…
Like usual, if there's anything I can improve, feel free to let me know~
About an hour after submitting this, I thought up an awesome pose idea for this guy that would've been so much better than the ordinary one I drew here, and no doubt people would've liked it so much better.
Figures... I always get my best idea's after it's already too late.
(I also touched up on a few things. I made his right foot a bit bigger, improved the spikes on his arm bands, and fixed up the fur on his legs a bit.)
